Learning to Drive

The area that I cover for learners is most of Stoke on Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Alsager, Congleton and surrounding areas.

Lessons can start from 8.00am to 8.00pm Monday to Friday and 8.00am to 6.00pm on a Saturday but I am flexible around these times.

Also available is refresher lessons, motorway tuition and Pass Plus. Lessons can be booked for 1 hour or 2 hour slots and can be booked as often as demand allows.

Also assistance with theory and hazard perception available.

First and foremost before learning to drive you must have a provisional licence which I must see. The amount of lessons that you need will vary with each individual but according to DSA statistics the average is 40-45 hours lessons.

To become a fully qualified driver you must pass the theory test and then the practical test.

The theory test consists of 50 multiple choice questions and to pass the test you must get a minimum of 43/50 and then complete the hazard perception test which involves identifying potential hazards from a video clip. Each video clip lasts for approximately 1 minute and there are 14 clips with 15 potential hazards. The quicker you identify the hazard the more points you will score with a possible 5 points for each hazard. To pass the hazard perception test you must score a minimum of 44/75 and you must pass both elements to pass the theory test.

You can start learning to drive before passing your theory test but you must pass your theory test before you may book your practical test.

The practical test lasts for approximately 40 minutes and includes an eyesight test, 2 show me/tell me questions on basic car maintenance and then a drive which the examiner will assess your driving which will include some manoeuvres. To pass the practical test you are allowed up to 15 minor faults with no serious or dangerous faults.
